Our Monkey

The "Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil" sequence of photos always makes me think of monkeys. Ironical, so does Gage. A few of my favorite examples: he loves bananas and has since he first tasted them, he makes funny noises, and he is a climber. At 15 months Gage climbed into his crib by wrapping his little toes around the rails and muscling his way up the side. He mastered climing out a couple of weeks later. Needles to say, he is now in a toddler bed and we've since found him in every sink and on every counter in our house. I'm anxious to channel his love of climbing this summer with some great trees. Anyway, I didn't mean to set up this series while taking his pictures but I could help it. Enjoy the laugh.

Mother Nature's Revenge

Mother Nature: Consider this my apology and surrender. I am sorry that I didn't let my toddler play outside all winter because I do not like the cold. I am sorry I sealed my windows in plastic so I could not enjoy your cold breezes the last 4 months. And I am really sorry that I spend too little time enjoying the sunshine and instead choose a life of pale skin and Vitamin D supplements. Please accept my surrender and stop sending snow. If you could also warm it up about 30 degrees, it would be much appreciated. And in return, I promise to stop cursing you on Facebook.

Welcome to Spring - we are in the midst of our second blizzard in 7 days and 157th this winter. Ok, that last part is an exaggeration, but I think we have put in our time for a while. To celebrate this momentous occasion on this fine day we kept Gage at the office. This blizzard actually did bring a couple of customers into the store and the phone even rang a few times despite every other business in town being closed. Nevertheless we had a good time introducing Gage to the Wii (he made it to the 3rd level of boxing all by himself!), playing hide and seek in the spacious work areas and taking some quick two year pictures of Gage. With less than two hours of naptime, the photo session was a rapid fire 20 minutes and a quick edit with help of Gage who loves to play the "puter" to watch "Elmo ABC". Here are a few pictures. I'm working on a special project that should be up tomorrow! They've already cancelled school here, so we may have another day of Gage at the office. If we decide to take him along, I'd love to try and do a "day in the life" photographic journey so stay tuned!

Happy Monday,
Kim

Baby Calves

This picture is from almost a year ago of Jack's Dad, Chuck with Gage checking heifers. Gage loves cows and loves anyone who can take him closer to cows. Grandparents on both sides nurture the obsession.

At the close of a successfully productive day at the office Gage's Grandma Koreen stopped to chat. Gage played his normal tricks with Grandma: pure avoidance which eventually leads to casual conversation followed by running circles around the room. While Gage played with toys and ran off his endless energy, we chatted with Koreen about weekend plans and she shared a calving story from the previous night. Around 4am she heard the tractor start and thought it a little strange. When Chuck came back in the house there had been a calf born to a stubborn cranky cow who didn't want anyone coming near her precious bundle. So Chuck drove right up to the calf and used his hook to help it into the bucket and safely move it to the protection of the barn. A fairly normal story in this part of the country. We chatted a while longer and out of nowhere Gage walked up to Koreen, grabbed her hand and started leading her to the door. When questioned where they were headed Gage replied, "Help Grandpa and baby calves, in bucket, in tractor." Because we don't say no (and neither does Grandma) and really need a peaceful night's sleep (plus productive Saturday to boot) Gage headed to the ranch to help with calving. Good luck Grandma and Grandpa - he'll be stellar at the midnight, 2:00 and 4:00 checks. No need to set an alarm.

Welcome to My World

Welcome to The Current Connection Blog. If you're wondering what to expect from me here let me give you an overview of what I do and how I plan to use this new tool.

A year ago, I made the decision to stop teaching agriculture courses at our public high school and start working with Jack at our businesses. We own and operate a main street computer and electronics sales and service store (The Current Connection) and in the summer we take rodeo entries for the South Dakota Rodeo Association (Midwest Rodeo Entries). Our businesses stays busy enough that its more than a one man operation so I came on board to help with phones, advertising, schedules, and the retail end of the operation while Jack continues with purchasing, repairs and service calls. We have plans to expand the business in a few new directions, including professional portraits and photography services (CSquared Photography).

Since all of the cool businesses are now blogging and I want to be cool someday, I figured it'd be a good way to express what goes on inside my head without having to tell everyone in person or over the phone as the case is 400 miles from here (hi Mom and Dad!). So I can't tell you exactly what you'll get here but I can say that its bound to include new things that I learn about the electronics and photography sectors, highlights from our "Deal of the Week" promotions and of course, the entertaining and energetic happenings of our 1 year and 51 week old son, Gage. He'll be two in ten days (*tear*) but feels like he has been a part of our lives forever. As we've quickly learned as entrepreneurs, its pretty difficult to not mix business with personal life and our blog will likely reflect that. I hope to include plenty of pictures in the postings, even though this first one is all words. I can promise sarcasm and a glimpse inside our crazy weird lives in Northwest South Dakota.

We aim to please and hope to entertain. Thanks for stopping by and see you soon!
